Since I moved back to Los Angeles, I have been living near UCLA. However, my parents live in Manhattan Beach, about a thirty minute drive south. The perfect spot for us to meet in between, for some delicious brunch, is Playa Provisions. Playa Provisions is great because they have a quick cafe for a quick bite/grab-n-go OR they have a main dining room for a bigger brunch. They also have a whiskey bar apparently, which I have yet to visit (but I will, don't worry). This spot is run by a Top Chef alum, Brooke Williamson, and if you're a culinary food show nerd, like me, then this is exciting news.
I have now been a handful of times and can confirm that it is consistently delicious. It is in a cool and casual spot in a low-key little beach town called Playa Del Rey. On top of that, it has very affordable prices. They have valet parking, but there is lots of parking in the neighborhood nearby as well. Finally, to sweeten the deal, it is just one block from the beach. So once you've stuffed yourself silly, you are just moments away from a lovely stroll on the sand to walk it off.
Above is what I ordered, which was my favorite. It is the Beet Cured Salmon Bagel: House cured salmon, Tobiko Roe Cream Cheese, Capers, Red Onions, Arugula, Tomato & Toasted Everything Bagel. A must order!
Next is Cajun Shrimp & Dungeness Crab Benedict. This was very good, and the hollandaise had a light lemon flavor which I love. However, it is very rich so take note.
Lastly, we shared a Maple Bacon Cinnamon Roll, because dessert is allowed for brunch too. This was amazing. Order it.
Is this the best brunch I have ever had? No.
Is it really good? Yes.
Is it affordable? Yes.
Should you go if you're in the area? Absolutely.
